Here are 12 destinations I would have on my radar for 2027.

1. Albania

The Mediterranean alternative you should be watching

Best for: Beach lovers, couples, road trips, foodies and travelers who love discovering somewhere new.

If you love the Mediterranean but aren't thrilled about the crowds and prices that can come with some of Europe's most popular destinations, look toward Albania.

The Albanian Riviera stretches along the Ionian Sea with beautiful beaches, turquoise water and dramatic mountain scenery. Inland, you'll find historic towns like Berat and Gjirokastër, while Tirana offers a completely different, energetic side of the country.

Albania is already attracting more attention, and its combination of coastline, culture and relative value is a big part of the appeal. Travel industry watchers are increasingly pointing to Albania as one of Europe's rising destinations.

Why I'd go now: Albania is no longer a secret, but it hasn't yet reached the same level of saturation as some of its Mediterranean neighbors.

2. Slovenia

Europe's fairytale country without the fairytale crowds

Slovenia is tiny, but don't let its size fool you.

You can go from the Julian Alps to vineyards, charming towns, emerald rivers and the Adriatic coast without spending your entire vacation in transit.

Lake Bled may be the country's most recognizable image, but Slovenia goes far beyond that postcard view. Ljubljana is charming and walkable, the Soča Valley is spectacular, and the country's wine regions are worth exploring.

3. Montenegro

5. Uzbekistan

The Silk Road is having a comeback

Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva are filled with extraordinary Islamic architecture, colorful tilework, bustling markets and centuries of history.

10. Bosnia & Herzegovina

11. Western Japan

12. Greece Beyond Santorini & Mykonos

The Greece you haven't seen all over Instagram

Best for: Couples, families, food lovers and travelers who love the Mediterranean but want something more relaxed.

Let's be clear: Santorini is beautiful.

Mykonos is beautiful too.

But Greece is so much bigger than its two most famous islands.

Consider Naxos, Milos, Folegandros, the Peloponnese, Epirus or smaller islands where traditional villages, incredible food and beautiful coastlines are still the focus.
