Dog-Friendly Fall Getaways Near NYC: Pet-Friendly Farms & Hotels in NY, NJ & PA

Nothing says fall near New York City like a car full of cider donuts, muddy boots, crunchy leaves, and one very excited dog in the back seat.

The good news? You do not have to leave your dog behind to enjoy apple picking, pumpkin patches, cider tastings, fall foliage, and those very important seasonal photos.

Within about 2.5 hours of New York City, there are some seriously good farms in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania where you can bring your pup along. Even better, several of these destinations are close enough to cute towns, restaurants, hiking trails, and pet-friendly hotels that you can turn a farm visit into an actual fall weekend.

Because driving two hours for apples and then driving two hours home is technically a day trip. But checking into a cozy hotel, grabbing dinner, and waking up somewhere surrounded by fall foliage? That is a getaway.

One important note before you go: pet policies can vary by farm, activity, and even the time of year. Some farms allow dogs in orchards and outdoor areas but not inside markets, food areas, on hayrides, or in certain pick-your-own fields. Always check the farm's current rules before your visit.

The Best Dog-Friendly Fall Farms Near NYC

Drive times are approximate from Manhattan and can vary significantly with weekend traffic.

New York

Twin Star Orchards | New Paltz, NY

If your perfect fall day involves apple picking, hard cider, wood-fired pizza, live music and hanging outside with your dog, Twin Star Orchards belongs on your list.

Located in New Paltz in the Hudson Valley, Twin Star is about 1.5 to 2 hours from NYC depending on traffic. It has much more of a "let's make a whole afternoon of this" feel than a quick stop at an apple farm.

You can pick your own apples, grab something from the farm stand, enjoy hard cider from Brooklyn Cider House, order wood-fired pizza, and spend some time outside taking in the fall scenery.

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas as long as they are leashed, and the outdoor patio at Brooklyn Cider House is dog-friendly. Just keep in mind that dogs are not permitted on the guided cider and orchard tour.

Why go to Twin Star Orchards?

  • Apple picking

  • Hard cider

  • Wood-fired pizza

  • Live music and seasonal events

  • Leashed dogs welcome outdoors

  • Beautiful Hudson Valley scenery

  • A relaxed, adult-friendly atmosphere

This is one of those places where I would not rush in, pick a bag of apples, and immediately get back in the car.

Grab a cider. Order a pizza. Let the dog hang out. Take approximately 400 fall photos. Stay for the music.

Then check into your hotel.

Where to stay near Twin Star Orchards

If you are coming from NYC, I would turn Twin Star into a New Paltz weekend rather than trying to squeeze everything into one day.

New Paltz, Gardiner and the surrounding Hudson Valley have pet-friendly hotels, inns, cabins and vacation rentals. Hampton Inn by Hilton New Paltz is one convenient option for travelers who want a straightforward hotel with pet-friendly rooms, free breakfast and free parking.

If you want something more boutique or romantic, there are also smaller inns and vacation rentals around New Paltz and Gardiner.

This is exactly the type of weekend where having someone help you choose the hotel can make a difference. You want something that works for your dog, your budget, your plans and how much driving you actually want to do.

Apple Dave's Orchards | Warwick, NY

For the classic dog-friendly fall farm experience, Apple Dave's is an easy choice.

Located in Warwick, New York, Apple Dave's is roughly an hour to 1.5 hours from Manhattan depending on traffic. The farm has apple picking, pumpkins, cider donuts, food, drinks, live entertainment and plenty of outdoor space.

Dogs are welcome in the orchard and distillery as long as they are well behaved and leashed.

What to do at Apple Dave's

  • Pick apples with your dog

  • Take fall photos in the orchard

  • Shop for pumpkins

  • Grab cider donuts

  • Enjoy drinks and food

  • Explore the outdoor areas

  • Take in the fall scenery around Warwick

Warwick is also a great place to turn your farm visit into a full weekend. There are plenty of restaurants, wineries, farms and outdoor activities nearby, so you do not have to make the orchard your only stop.

Where to stay near Apple Dave's

For a simple overnight, look at pet-friendly hotels in Middletown, Warwick and the surrounding Orange County area.

If you want something more memorable, consider a boutique inn, cabin or vacation rental where your dog has a little more room to stretch out.

And if you are already driving from NYC, staying one night means you can actually enjoy dinner and drinks instead of worrying about getting back on the road.

Masker Orchards | Warwick, NY

Want the classic apple-picking experience without leaving your dog behind?

Masker Orchards is a 200-acre orchard in Warwick and one of the more dog-friendly options near NYC.

The orchard welcomes pets as long as they are under control and remain leashed. That means you can actually bring your dog along while you wander through the orchard and pick apples.

Why go to Masker Orchards?

  • Apple picking

  • Dogs welcome in the orchard

  • Fall foliage

  • Cider donuts

  • Pumpkins and seasonal activities

  • Plenty of space for photos

Masker is particularly good for a traditional fall day. Think apple trees, boots, baskets, leaves underfoot and your dog inevitably trying to investigate every single thing.

Where to stay near Masker Orchards

Since Masker is also in Warwick, you can pair it with the same type of weekend getaway as Apple Dave's.

Stay in Warwick for small-town charm or look toward Middletown, Monroe or Goshen for additional hotel options.

If you are planning a September or October weekend, I would book the hotel before the farm. Fall weekends in the Hudson Valley can fill quickly, especially when the foliage is at its peak.

Dr. Davies Farm | Congers, NY

If you want a fall farm experience without committing to a two-hour drive, Dr. Davies Farm in Congers is worth a look.

It is only about 45 minutes to an hour from Manhattan, making it one of the easier dog-friendly apple-picking options for a quick escape from the city.

The farm welcomes friendly dogs and asks that they remain on a six-foot leash.

What to do at Dr. Davies Farm

  • Apple picking

  • Pumpkin picking

  • Corn maze

  • Hayrides

  • Fall photos

  • Cider and donuts

  • A visit to Red Barn Cidery

This is a great option if you want to get out of the city for the day without planning an entire weekend.

But if you are coming from farther away, consider staying overnight and exploring more of the Hudson Valley while you are there.

Weed Orchards & Winery | Marlboro, NY

For a fall farm day with a slightly more grown-up vibe, put Weed Orchards on your list.

This fifth-generation Hudson Valley farm combines pick-your-own fruit with a winery, hard cider, food, live music and plenty of outdoor space. It is also dog-friendly.

During the fall, you can find apple and pumpkin picking, cider, wine, pizza and seasonal events.

Why go?

  • Apple picking

  • Pumpkin picking

  • Wine

  • Hard cider

  • Food and pizza

  • Live music

  • Dogs welcome

  • Hudson Valley fall scenery

This is another farm where I would strongly consider staying overnight.

Where to stay near Weed Orchards

Look around Marlboro, New Paltz, Poughkeepsie and Gardiner.

Hampton Inn by Hilton New Paltz is one practical pet-friendly option, but there are also boutique inns, cabins and vacation rentals throughout the area.

If you want your fall weekend to feel more special than a standard hotel stay, this is where I can help narrow down the options based on the experience you actually want.

New Jersey

Johnson's Locust Hall Farm | Jobstown, NJ

If your ideal fall day includes apples, pumpkins and a giant corn maze, Johnson's Locust Hall Farm is a fun option.

The 325-acre farm offers pick-your-own apples, pumpkins, sunflowers and zinnias, plus a five-acre corn maze, hayrides, animals and plenty of seasonal treats.

Dogs are welcome as long as they are friendly and leashed, although they are not permitted inside the farm's buildings.

Why go?

  • Apple picking

  • Pumpkin picking

  • Sunflowers

  • Corn maze

  • Hayrides

  • Dogs welcome outdoors

  • Apple cider donuts

  • Fall farm treats

Johnson's is a great option for families and groups because there is enough going on that everyone can find something they want to do.

Where to stay

Pair the farm with a Princeton or Bucks County weekend.

There are several pet-friendly hotels around Princeton, including suite-style properties that give you a little more space when you are traveling with a dog.

You can also spend some time exploring Princeton, grab dinner, and make the entire trip feel like a real getaway instead of simply a trip to the farm.

Ort Farms | Long Valley, NJ

Ort Farms is a great choice if you are looking for a dog-friendly pumpkin patch near NYC.

Dogs are welcome in the pumpkin patch, sunflower field, tulip field and corn maze as long as they remain leashed. Pets are not permitted in the fruit and vegetable picking areas or on the hayride.

Why go?

  • Pumpkin patch

  • Sunflower field

  • Corn maze

  • Farm animals

  • Homemade ice cream

  • Dogs welcome in designated areas

  • Seasonal fall activities

This is especially good for dogs who love being outside but are not exactly interested in sitting through a hayride.

Where to stay

For an overnight, look around Morristown, Chester, Clinton or the surrounding Morris and Hunterdon County areas.

A hotel with easy parking, outdoor space and a straightforward pet policy can make the weekend much easier.

And if you are already making the drive from NYC, why not add a great dinner and a cute downtown before heading home?

Windy Brow Farms | Newton, NJ

If giant fall festivals are not really your thing, Windy Brow Farms is worth a look.

This is the quieter option for people who want apples, fresh air, good food and a dog-friendly farm without a huge festival atmosphere.

Dogs are welcome on the property and in the fields as long as they are leashed. They are not permitted inside the farm store or underneath the pizza pergola, but outdoor picnic tables are available.

Why go?

  • Apple picking

  • Dogs welcome outdoors

  • Wood-fired pizza

  • Ice cream

  • Country scenery

  • A more relaxed fall atmosphere

Windy Brow is a particularly nice option if your dog does better in a quieter environment.

The farm has noted that its 2026 apple crop was significantly affected by the spring freeze, so check current picking availability before making the drive.

Pennsylvania

Styer Orchard | Langhorne, PA

If you want a classic orchard experience without driving all the way to Lancaster, Styer Orchard is a great Pennsylvania option.

Styer describes itself as very dog-friendly and encourages visitors to bring their furry friends.

The farm offers pick-your-own fruit, pumpkins, hayrides, seasonal activities and a market filled with baked goods and other fall treats.

Why go?

  • Apple picking

  • Pumpkins

  • Dogs welcome

  • Hayrides

  • Farm market

  • Baked goods

  • Classic Pennsylvania farm scenery

Where to stay

This is where I would turn the farm visit into a Bucks County weekend.

Look at pet-friendly hotels around Newtown, Langhorne, Doylestown and New Hope.

Residence Inn Philadelphia Langhorne is a practical option for travelers who want more space, with suites and kitchens. Homewood Suites by Hilton Newtown-Langhorne is another option with suites, kitchens, free breakfast and pet-friendly rooms.

Then spend some time exploring New Hope, Peddler's Village or the Delaware River before heading home.

Now it actually feels like a vacation.

Shady Brook Farm | Yardley, PA

Shady Brook Farm is another fun Bucks County option, especially if pumpkins and fall events are more your thing than spending hours picking apples.

Dogs are welcome around the Farm Market and Garden Center, but there are restrictions. Pets are not permitted in the pick-your-own fields, Festival Field, wagon rides, indoor areas or spaces serving food and beverages.

Why go?

  • Pumpkins

  • Seasonal farm events

  • Farm market

  • Apple cider donuts

  • Fall decorations

  • Dogs welcome in designated areas

  • Bucks County scenery

Because of the pet restrictions, I would choose Shady Brook if you are comfortable splitting the day a little. Your dog can join you in the areas where pets are allowed, while one person can explore the restricted areas if needed.

Where to stay

Bucks County is a great choice for a dog-friendly weekend because you can combine the farm with New Hope, Peddler's Village, outdoor walks and restaurants with pet-friendly patios.

There are plenty of pet-friendly hotel options throughout the area, so you do not have to settle for the closest hotel just because it accepts dogs.

Don't Just Book the Closest Pet-Friendly Hotel

Finding a hotel that technically allows dogs is easy.

Finding a hotel that actually makes sense for you, your dog, your budget and your weekend plans is another story.

That is where I come in.

As a travel advisor, I can help you put together the entire fall escape, from the farm to the hotel to dinner reservations and everything in between.

I'll help you find:

  • Pet-friendly hotels that actually fit your trip

  • The best farm for the kind of fall experience you want

  • Dog-friendly restaurants and outdoor dining

  • Nearby hiking and walking spots

  • Fun things to do after apple picking

  • The right hotel for your budget and travel style

  • And a weekend that does not require you to spend three hours comparing hotel reviews and pet policies

Because if you are going to drive out of NYC for apple picking, you might as well make a weekend of it.

Bring the dog. Pack the boots. I'll help with the rest.
